I need some help clearing out my studio! I’ve added 3 new paintings to my online shop, all of which are on sale. I’m only going to have these paintings up until April 30, 2014, then i’m taking them down forever. If you’re interested, head on over to www.thechung.bigcartel.com

This is the piece i created for the show  "L.A. Heat: Taste Changing Condiments"
"Say When" acrylic on board 11x14" on display at theChinese American Museum in Los Angeles.
A little bit about this piece:I’ve always been somewhat adventurous when it comes to trying new foods and have equally found myself liking the foods that most find disgusting/unpopular. Regardless of what you choose to eat, everybody has their own preferences in how they enjoy their meal. Whether that’s by eating chicken wings with a fork and knife, drowning out the dish’s flavor with a favorite hot sauce, or preferences in how raw or burnt the meat is, there’s always going to be someone that has an opposing opinion about how you do things. You can’t control what other people think, so why allow that to ruin your time? Take care of yourself and enjoy the things that bring you happiness when you can while you can.

During the show opening i had the lucky opportunity to meet and speak with the two nicest, most down to earth, and inspiring men ever, David Tran (Founder of Huy Fong Foods) and Luis Saavedra (Founder of Tapatio) who offered me nothing but enthusiasm and kindness for my piece. For someone who spends most of his time either locked away at the office or in his own studio, these two Kings totally made me feel like a Duke. Thanks for reminding me why i do what i do.

Just another cleanup pass on this little finger crab and it’s off to make a mold! Already working out the package design, hope it all works out :) #toys #designertoy #resin #art

Here’s a progression of my most recent piece from sketch to digital color comp to final paint. This piece is titled:

"Adapting to Change."

6x6” acrylic on wood

This little piece revolves loosely on how i’ve always felt the need to challenge myself, or at least being presented with an opportunity that forced me to challenge myself. This piece also serves as recognition to my little character, Shrympee, that helped me take my first step into the designer toy world (a world, until now, i’ve always admired from a distance but never had the chance to play in).

Even though Shrympee marked an important time in my life, I’ve always felt that if i remained doing the same thing for too long, i’d become complacent and stop growing as an artist as well as a person. I’m still not even close to where i want to be in my personal development, but hopefully with the way things have been going, i’ll get there one day. I’m lucky enough to have been taking a lot of big steps in my life, but many of them are only the beginning.
